Vaishali is a master’s student, doing a Master of Biomedical Science(specialisation-Neuroscience) at the University of Western Australia. Her area of research is focused on the abnormal aggregation of Tau proteins. Tau aggregates are considered a critical biomarker for the pathological diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. Vaishali’s dissertation project aims to establish an in-vitro cell culture model of tau aggregation. Furthermore, she will be assessing if tau aggregation reduces cortical neuronal cell/ SH-SY5Y cell survival over time. With her research project, she is determined to examine the role of R18D in inhibiting tau aggregation or improving cell survival in SH-SY5Y or cortical neuronal cells.
