Research group
Dr Jan Ho is a neurologist and the Stroke Research Fellow at the Perron Institute. He is a medical graduate from the University of Adelaide and moved to Western Australia to embark on his physician training. He completed neurology training at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and his training journey took him to Austin Hospital, Melbourne, completing a Stroke fellowship with Prof Vincent Thijs.
Dr Ho has always maintained a strong research interest throughout his career, having completed a WA health registrar research program with Prof Markus Schlaich at the Dobney Hypertension Centre. He has participated in clinical trials and published in reputable journals. With his keenness for research, Dr Ho is currently undertaking a PhD program with Professor Vincent Thijs, Professor Graeme Hankey and A/Prof Heath Pardoe. He is studying the utilisation of machine learning and artificial intelligence in identifying symptomatic carotid arteries with greater precision by incorporating newer factors such as perivascular fat, in the analysis.
Dr Ho has a deep passion for incorporating newer techniques and technology into research to increase the efficiency of research and improve the ability to do more research. He is also interested in maintaining academic relationships and participates in research nationally and internationally. He maintains an honorary appointment at the Austin Hospital to facilitate close ties between hospitals. Along with his interest in research, he remains on the front lines of clinical neurology. He cares for patients at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perron Institute and SJOG Midland Hospital, where he has clinical appointments and sees patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings. With this, Dr Ho not only appreciates the immediate clinical concerns of stroke patients but also longer-term care requirements.
