The Brain and Bone Axis Research Team, led by Professor Minghao Zheng is exploring the link between the brain and bones, particularly the link between bone fractures and dementia. The rate of dementia is over 40% higher in elderly people who have suffered fractures.
Professor Zheng is the inventor of the collagen-based Orthocell tissue regeneration technology. Other research being undertaken by the group is looking at the use of this patented biological scaffold technology in the treatment of peripheral neuropathy.
Professor Zheng and his Brain and Bone Axis Research group joined the institute in 2018. The group also comprises a postdoctoral fellow and PhD students.
The core focus of the Brain and Bone Axis Research group is to apply technologies they have developed in the area of orthopaedics to develop treatments for neurological disorders.
