Alan Harvey

Born in London and with degrees from Cambridge and the ANU, Alan Harvey is an Emeritus Professor and Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the School of Human Sciences at the University of Western Australia. Professor Harvey is Chair of thePerron Institute’s Research Advisory Committee and a former member of the Neurological Council of Western Australia.

Professor Harvey is one of Western Australia’s most eminent neuroscientists and has a strong commitment to growing neuroscience research in Western Australia. He has a particular research interest in gene therapy, cell/tissue transplantation, nanotechnology and pharmacotherapy in the repair of the central nervous system.

Professor Harvey has over 200 major publications and a history of significant funding from the NHMRC and other funding agencies. The winner of awards for both teaching and postgraduate supervision, Alan has supervised over 30 PhD students, many of whom have gone onto highly successful research careers, in the USA, Europe and China. His book, “Music, Evolution and the Harmony of Souls” was recently published by Oxford University Press.
