The Perron Institute for Neurological and Translational Science Institute – formerly the Western Australian Neuroscience Research Institute – is Western Australia’s longest established medical research institute. The institute is experiencing a period of rapid expansion linked to its move into new facilities at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre. These facilities complement the institute’s other laboratories at Murdoch University.
The Perron Institute’s research focus is the genesis, diagnosis and treatment of neurological and neuromuscular disorders and the institute has research groups in the fields of genetics and genetic therapy, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, neurotrauma, stroke, Parkinson’s, regenerative neuroscience and rehabilitation. The Perron Institute has a strong record of translating the results of its research into better outcomes for people in the form of diagnostics, therapeutics and improvements in clinical care.
