The Epilepsy Clinics at the Perron Institute provide diagnosis, management and treatments for patients with epilepsy, including a Western Australian first with the Epilepsy and Pregnancy Clinic which provides specialist advice to women with epilepsy of childbearing age with a focus on pregnancy-related issues.
The Epilepsy Clinics are staffed by Consultant Neurologists, Dr Athanasios Gaitatzis and Dr Janavi Dunuwille who provide personalised advice and educational material in partnership with Epilepsy Action Australia. Both clinics have nursing support from within the Institute and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. It is this multidisciplinary team approach that allows patients to be well cared for holistically, particularly in the area of pregnancy care for women with recurrent seizures or on antiepileptic drugs (AEDs).
