Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Clinics
The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Clinics at the Perron Institute provide multidisciplinary care including allied health support from SCGH speech pathology, dietitian, and physiotherapy departments.
The clinics also work closely with the SCGH Gastroenterology Department and the Respiratory and Sleep Disorders Clinics.
Reviews to anticipate and solve any problems occur usually 3 monthly or as required.
Referrals are made to Community Services to provide assistance in the home especially through CAEP [Community Aids and Equipment Program], with local Occupational Therapy services and with the Silver Chain Hospice Palliative Care when appropriate. A report is sent to the patient, GP, and other collaborators after each visit, to keep everyone up-to-date on the current status and management plan.
Clinic patients are also offered opportunities to participate in MND research projects.
